The Miya Epoch Electric Fishing Reels has been around for over 39 years now, they were the first and are still the best in brand in the industry. But I noticed that there’s still a lot of people that think this concept of computerized fishing reel is new or not as fun as a standard reel. I think one of the reason is that most people just don’t know all the benefits and advantages of the product. So, for today’s blog, I’ve decided to just give a general introduction of the history and evolution of the Miya Epoch Electric Reel, also some information about the inventor and the manufacturing company Miyamae Co Ltd, located in Japan.

In April 1967, MIYAMAE CO., LTD (company established in 1949) started the manufacture and sales of the world’s first electric reels for ocean fishing. Initially these electric reels were misused by the fishing mania, but after it was broadcast on a TV program, its convenience became clear, leading to a gradual increase in number of its enthusiasts. Today the company holds 43% of share in the electric reel industry and without stopping at the domestic market is also exporting to a wide range of foreign markets like USA, Europe, Taiwan, Malaysia etc. The company’s deep-sea fishing electric line, also being called as the genre of deep-sea fishing, holds almost 100% share and keep in mind the rise in the average age of the fishermen so they have been increasing the turnover every year. The company continues to market its 12 volt COMMANDX Series and the 24 volt US Series which is a high quality, feature rich deep-sea fishing electric trolling reel and in addition for small and middle sized use. The recently introduced COMMAND X-6Z intended for beginners to professionals, is high-powered, reasonably priced and is being highly talked about. The company expects that this product will turn out to be one that can be enjoyed to the full regardless of whether the user is an amateur or a professional.

These Miya Epoch reels are more than just motorized conventional reels. The reel and motor are made as one unit, factory balanced, engineered and assembled. MIYAMAE CO., LTD made the first electric fishing reel over 39 years ago, and NO other company in the world has more experience in research, design and development in this area. Most of the CommandX reels have 13 standard features. There are also some additional features such as the automatic drag system available with the larger reels. These features are what really brings the enjoyment of fishing up to a whole new level.

Here are some of the standard features of the CommandX Reels.

1. Simple Lever-Action Drag control will give you a wide range of stable drag adjustments.
2. On-Off Winding switch to pump your catch.
3. The Auto Winding switch to relax your arms.
4. The unique Miya Level Winding mechanism to keep your line evenly on the spool.
5. The Variable Speed Control dial to reel your catch in just the right speed.
6. The Line Counter to tell you how far your line is out by the revolution of the spool.
7. The Speed Indicator to indicate the position of the winding speed.
8. Automatic Zero Stop to keep your line from running through the guide (automatically stops winding when the counter reaches “000″)
9. The Battery Indicator will show if your batter power is sufficient or not.
10. For the big catch, the Override Handle will enable you to add more winding power as needed.
11. Large LCD display.
12. The Direction of spool turning. It is simple to operate and will fill your sack in no time without tiring your arms.
13. Depth Memory to recall your last drop. The bait will sink down to the same spot every time to the set memory until you reprogram it to a new depth memory.

If you have never used a Miya Epoch Electric Reel before, you are in for a great surprise. If you see anybody using this reel, just go and ask them how they like it. We have had returning customers for many years now and even been in contact with fishermen that has had a Miya Epoch Electric reel for 10, 15, or even 20 plus years. They love their Miya Epoch reel and the new reels are just getting better and better. Our current selections have more power, more features and a very sleek design. Also, our 24 volt US Series are becoming more and more popular as teaser reels. Recently, many fishing boats and yachts come standard or at least with an option to have these Miya Epoch Reels installed as teaser reels. Once you experience a Miya Epoch Reel as a teaser reel, it’s hard to imagine ever going back to the standard reel and cranking the handle every time to reel in. Our hope is that more and more sports fishermen benefit from our Miya Epoch Reels by using all of it’s great features and power and have a wonderful time fishing in the ocean. If you have never used a Miya Epoch Electric Reel before, you are in for a great surprise.

Some people might look at all the different Miya Epoch Reels on our site www.swingcast.com and may get a little confusing when trying to choose the right reel for them. There are so many different reels to choose from, with different features, power, speed, size, and options. If you’re one of those people, first of all, I appreciate you for doing further research by reading this Blog that I’m about to write and I hope this helps.

The concept is just like buying a car, if you go for an economic, small, compact car, it may cost you less and have better mileage but you will probabaly get less horse power. If you go for a large SUV or something with more horse power, it will get you less mileage per gallon and probably cost you more. Whatever you choose, it will most likely get you to the destination you want. It’s a matter of how luxury or economical you choose to be, what features you want and how much horse power, and of course style (for that, check out the CommandX-10 and the CommandX-20, the limited edition which comes 18 Karat Gold Plated). But since our product here is going to cost much less than getting a car, you don’t have to stress! It even comes with a 14-day money-back return policy (see restrictions on our site), so relax!

Now, here are the basics, if you’re looking for a portable electric reel to enjoy for yourself whenever and wherever, look at the CommandX series since they are operated by a 12 volt battery (which you can get at most major hardware stores) and come with a handle. The US series are 24 volt and come with no handle (optional) and are usually installed on boats as teaser reels. Another thing to keep in mind is that, all our reels have at least 13 features which is the standard, we call it the “Command System”. So now you’re really just looking a few basic things. How much hoisting power and winding speed and line capacity and if you would like the features in addition to the Command System with the different models.

With the Miya Epoch Electric Fishing Reels, you can get a smaller reel such as the CommandX-1 or the CommandX-4. It will cost you a lot less than some other reels, it will be smaller, lighter, easier to carry and it won’t use as much batter power as the bigger reels but it will have less hoisting power and winding speed (may be perfect for fresh water fishing). You can still go out to sea and catch fish and be able to bring it in, but it will definitely take more time depending on the fish size. On the other hand, you can go with a more powerful, larger size reel such as the CommandX-9SP or the CommandX-15SP and of course, have more hoisting power and greater winding speed. Another things is that the variable speed control for these reels have 40 different levels instead of 7, and it also has an additional feature, the Automatic Drag System. It will definitely be heavier and cost you more but you will see the difference and have a blast seeing it crank in the catch of the day!

Now, if you are like most people and just want to best all around reel to take out to sea that has more than enough hoisting power, winding speed, line capacity, and as much features possible, but yet not too big or heavy, at a very reasonable price, I recommend the CommandX-6Z. It’s a newer model reel with the newly designed motor for more power. It has the full Command System which are the 13 amazing features, including the Depth Memory to recall your last drop (the bait will sink down to the same spot every time to the set memory until you reprogram it to a new depth memory). And if you think you’re a little more than the average fisherman, then I suggest going one step up to the CommandX-8Z which will catch fish to a depth of 1,200 feet, and the winding speed can vary from 190 to 340 rpm.

If you’re still confused about what reel to those, then you can email or call me and I will do my best to recommend the reel right for you. Otherwise, during this month of May, the CommandX-6Z is on sale, over $150 off which brings it down below $900. Don’t miss this opportunity, happy fishing!

I realized that people who love to fish and use our Miya Epoch electric reels appreciate the product more than a golfer who use our golf training products (that we used to list on our website as well). Maybe it the nature of the product (the Electric Reels) that is just more fun and enjoyable. With the golf training products, you have to spend time practicing off the course and it’s hard to measure the results right away. How many golfer gets the score that they expect every time they play anyways? I almost never do. . . I usually spend time hitting great drives at the driving range right before I start my round. Then when I start my round, I end up saying “Oh gosh! All my good shots were all wasted at the driving range!”

On the other hand, with the Electric Reels, you can just go out and start using it right away. Then, when the big fish makes a bite, the fun starts, the heart is pounding with excitement, the reeling-in happens, the is fish brought up and the feeling is awesome. And while everyone else is struggling to just turn the handle to reel in the fish (like I used to do), you let the power of the Miya Epoch electric reel motor do the work, while focusing more on adjusting the drag, lifting the pole and paying more attention to the battle with the fish. With our electric reels, your hands are not blistered and your arms are not sore or strained from the battle. So you immediately cast out again, use the depth memory function to get the bait back to the same depth. Another round has begun, what a wonderful feeling!

By the way, I’ve seen golfers make a disappointing shot and break their golf club in half but I’ve never seen a single fishermen bring up a fish and be so disappointed that the fishermen breaks the fishing pole in half. . .

It’s been almost two and a half years since the creation of swingcast.com. It’s been an exciting journey, watching the site gain credibility, go through numerous design changes, gain new functionality and do business with many wonderful people. The most exciting thing is when I hear some interesting story about a fisherman’s experience with the Miya Epoch Electric Reel.

I remember about two years ago, when the site was still new, I received a phone call from an enthusiastic person that just wanted to tell me about the Miya Epoch Electric Fishing Reel that he had since 1979 which he was still using! He told me about how much he loved his reel and how he has never considered switching back to an ordinary reel. His reel was a very old model with none of the latest features we see with today’s reels but the real reason he was so happy was that he thought that he had lost the reel once, due to a flood. He told me that the reel was fully under sea water for atleast two days and thought that he would never be able to use his reel that he has own for over 25 years again. He knew from searching online and looking at my website that the newer reels had more power and features but it just wasn’t the same as the one he has been using for so many years.

The surprising thing was that after he got the Electric Reel out of the water and dried, he attached it to his 12 volt batter just to make sure it was no longer functional but then found out that is still worked!

Now, I’m not really a technician, and I don’t think these reels were designed to be fully water proof and be able to handle being under salt water for two days but I was just very happy for him and congratulated the man. I have to admit, there was a moment I thought that if the Miya Epoch Electric Reels weren’t built so well (even the ones produced 25 years ago), maybe I would be getting more repeat customers but that thought immediatly disappeared after hearing the excitement in his voice. The story also gave me confidence and faith in the product. If it made a customer from over 25 years ago this happy today, I’m sure that it can continue to make many more people happy.

So as I continue spend many hours to modify and promote swingcast.com and sell the Miya Epcoh Electric Reels, I remember this story and look forward to hearing many more exciting stories.

Often, when I talk to friends about golfing, in the middle of the conversation, atleast one person standing will make a motion with his arms and hips as though he’s swinging a golf club. Also, when we’re talking about going fishing over the weekend, someone will either make a motion that seems like he’s casting a line or motion with his hands as though reeling in a big fish. I never tell a person how silly it looks because I know that if I ever do, that person will catch me one day doing the same thing.I love to golf and I love to fish and that is how I came up with the name SWINGCAST. I SWING a golf club (maybe not very well) and I CAST a fishing line into the water. Both are one of my favorite things to do in life and our site originally started off selling Miya Epoch Golf Training Products and Miya Epoch Electric Fishing Reels.Currently, on www.swingcast.com there are only Miya Electric Fishing Reels being sold now. Previously, there was also a section that sold Miya Epoch golf training products. However, I have decided to separate the two and have one site focus on one product category, which in this case is the electric fishing reels for swingcast.com and have not created a site for the golf products yet. At first, I thought combining the site with both product categories onto the same online store was a good idea, like killing two birds with one stone. However, it turned out to be the opposite, more like a Japanese line that says; He who chases after two animals at the same time end up loosing both. Someday, we may have another website that will focus on the Miya Epoch Golf Training Products but for now, SwingCast.com will strive to be the best online provider of Miya Epoch Electric Fishing Reels. The great news is that it’s working very well. With the site focused only on the Electric Fishing Reels, we are able to position ourselves stronger on the internet search engines, provide more resource, have a better focus, and give better customer service.
